Chronic or recurring pediatric sinus infection (sinusitis)

The adenoids are located high in the throat, behind the nose, and can only be seen with a special medical instrument used by your doctor. Similar to the relationship between the adenoids and otitis media, the adenoids can act as a harbor for bacteria that cause recurring chronic sinus infections (sinusitis).

Antibiotics are the initial treatment for bacterial sinus infections. If sinus infections continue to recur and other causes are ruled out, the adenoids may need to be removed. Removing this harbor of bacteria usually reduces the incidence of chronic sinusitis in children. For more information about sinusitis, please visit SinusInfoCenter.com
