Research shows PITA technique very effective in treating OSA

In several recent studies, researchers found that the PITA technique was effective in removing the airway obstruction in 99% of sleep apnea patients who had the procedure.

Not only was PITA effective in treating OSA, but it also provided patients with considerably less postoperative pain and a faster return to normal activity.

All of these studies regularly observed that, in children who underwent the PITA technique:

  • postoperative pain was cut in half;
  • return to normal diet times were cut in half;
  • narcotic usage (pain medicine) was lower; and
  • postoperative bleeding and dehydration complications requiring hospital readmission were reduced.
"This is a technique that is truly going to revolutionize one of the most common operations we do," said Peter Koltai, MD, an ENT (ear, nose and throat) specialist at a children's clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.
