Cold steel tonsillectomy
Tonsil Scapel
In cold steel methods, the surgeon uses stainless steel scissors or a scalpel to remove the tonsil tissue from between two muscles in the back of the throat.
This approach provides a complete tonsillectomy and causes less pain.
However, more patients experience delayed postoperative bleeding after surgery with cold steel techniques. In very rare cases, postoperative bleeding can result in death.
The radiofrequency method has largely replaced cold steel techniques.
