VVelopharyngeal Insufficiency (VPI) - Incomplete closure of the nasopharyngeal sphincter, the muscle formed in the front by the palate and in the back of the throat. Air or fluids can leak through an insufficient nasopharynx causing leakage through the nose and a extremely nasal vocal tone. |
