Removal of tonsils alone

Tonsils act as part of your body's immune system to help fight infection in the first few years of life. But sometimes the tonsils themselves become a problem and need to be removed in a procedure called a tonsillectomy. Tonsillectomies are performed most often for:
  1. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)
  2. Chronic, recurring infections of the tonsils (tonsillitis) or throat, despite medical treatment
  3. Bleeding tonsils (less common)

Why are they removed?
